The ten-story tall
"Lions Light house for Sight" stands today in Long Beach's
Rainbow Bay as a permanent reminder of Lions Clubs International's
dedication to ending blindness in the world and as a tribute to one of
the greatest Lions of all time, "Mr. Lion" Vito
Romans. Not only did Vito help raise the $206,000 of the necessary
$350,000 to build the lighthouse, he personally introduced over 200
people to Lionism as members of the Downtown Long Beach Club and others.
Essential assistance was
offered by Club President Theresa Scrooc Brunella, City Manager Jim
Hankla, Mayor Beverly O'Neill, Convention Bureau chief Linda Howell
DiMario, the astute financial guidance of Lion Paul Mandeville and
the largesse of Jim Ackerman and Sam Rogers.
